1950s Friso Kramer Asmeta Cabinet

Beautiful metal shelving rack designed by Friso Kramer for Asmeta. This yellow, blue/grey and white unit in used vintage condition with minor wear. Asmeta modular storage units by Dutch designer Friso Kramer for the exclusive ‘Bijenkorf’ department store. The yellow and dark blue/grey pattern evokes the atmosphere of the abstract graphic designs and architecture of that period. The height and transparency makes them also suitable to be used as a room divider. The modular construction is done by using bolts and nuts, user marks consistent with age.

Friso Kramer became famous for his many designs for Dutch company Ahrend / De Cirkel, which manufacturered steel furniture for schools and office buildings. Today, his work is probably one of the most appreciated of its kind, and particulary the pieces developed during the fifties have become sought-after collector items which are sold all over the world. A exhibition of his work was held in the ‘Boijmans van Beuningen Museum’ Rotterdam and in the ‘Stedelijk Museum’ in Amsterdam.
